L. Frank Baum
The writer of the Oz series saw his work transformed into a musical stage version in 1901. A complex man, he was a friend of Susan B Anthony and yet called for the extermination of the American Indian. Far more prolific than is now generally appreciated, he wrote under several pseudonyms as well.
