Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan was a Pashtun and Muslim in India who worked for Indian independence; and an ally of Gandhi. He was a life-long practitioner and advocate of non-violence. He was nominated for a Nobel prize in 1985 and won India's highest civil award, the Bharat Ratna or "Gem of India."
